Spirits
Small Batch Distillations at Six
Mile Creek Vineyard
2007 marked the launch of our newest line of distilled specialties
bottled under the family name, Spirits by Battistella. This
exclusive lineup which includes the first wine based Vodka in the
Finger Lakes, as well as some Italian specialties, adds an exciting
new twist on your visit to the winery. Only limited quantities are
produced in each batch in order to maintain the highest quality.
People have been distilling for centuries. The still we use at Six
Mile Creek employs a design relatively unchanged since around 800 AD
when the Alembic pot still was developed. The simplest definition of
distillation is the purification of weak or impure substances, in
this case the alcohol common to both wines and spirits: Ethanol. The
Alembic pot still is versatile and allows us to create a wide
variety of spirits. We are currently focusing our efforts on premium
Vodka, as well as two Italian digestivi, Limoncella and
Grappa.
Spirits by
Battistella
Grappa
Made in the
traditional Italian method, this spirit is produced from the
remaining grape skins from fermented wines (Pomace). The alcohol is
distilled off of the skins to produce the intense aromas and unique
flavors that this spirit presents. This particular bottling was made
predominately from pinot noir, with a bit of cabernet franc and
merlot. (Only 268 bottles) $30
Vodka
Utilizing only
the "hearts" of the distillation to assure seductive smoothness.
Triple distilled from a finished Seyval Blanc wine, vodka by
Battistella is styled to meet the discriminating standards of
individuals accustomed to the very best. (Only 340 bottles) $25
Limoncella
Styled after
the popular Italian "digestivo" from the beautiful island of Capri.
This wonderfully refreshing after dinner liqueur begins with a vodka
base sweetened and infused with lemon essence. (Only 400 bottles)
